U.S. Government Awards handed out to twelve safety experts

During the opening session of the 24th ESV conference on June 8, twelve experts were awarded the U.S. Government Awards. Five awardees received the U.S. Government Special Awards of Appreciation, which is in recognition of and appreciation for outstanding leadership and special contributions in the field of motor vehicle safety. Seven awardees received the U.S. Government Awards for Safety Engineering Excellence, in recognition of and appreciation for exceptional scientific contributions in the field of motor vehicle safety engineering and for distinguished service to the motoring public.

The awards, presented by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), are among the most prestigious awards that you can receive in the automotive field. 

The awarees are:

U.S. Government Special Awards of Appreciation

  • Sadayuki Ujihashi, Professor, Nippon Bunri University, Japan
  • Jonas Ekmark, Section Manager, Innovation, Active Safety & Chassis, R&D, Volvo Car Corporation, Sweden
  • Farid Ahmed-Zaid, Senior Research Scientists, Advanced Engineering Group, Ford Motor Company, United States
  • Matthew Reed, Research Professor and Head of Biosciences Group, UMTRI, and Research Professor, University of Michigan, Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering, United States
